Quick answer

What does an AEO agency in the Netherlands do for AI search?

An AEO agency Netherlands brands hire for AI search records how ChatGPT, Google AI-overzichten, AI-modus, Perplexity and Copilot answer Dutch buyer questions, in Dutch and English, then fixes what keeps the brand out: crawler access, consistent company facts, answer-first pages and honest mentions on the Dutch sources those engines cite.

  • In Dutch search results 'AEO' usually means the customs Authorised Economic Operator status, not AI search, so ask any agency which meaning it sells.
  • Google announced AI Overviews in Dutch (AI-overzichten) at Google I/O on 20 May 2025, and AI-modus went live in Dutch in October 2025.
  • StatCounter puts Google at 89.14% of Dutch searches in September 2026, with Bing at 4.57%.
  • Since 28 May 2022 Dutch consumer law requires businesses that show reviews to say how they check those reviews are genuine; fake reviews are banned outright.

01

Why does 'AEO agency Netherlands' return customs pages?

Because in the Netherlands AEO first means Authorised Economic Operator, the EU customs certification that Dutch importers, exporters and logistics firms rely on. Customs Support notes that the Netherlands holds the most AEO certificates of any EU country relative to its size. When we checked the English results for 'aeo agency netherlands' on 21 October 2026, page one was customs consultancies such as Customs Support and Gerlach Customs, a logistics press release and Dutch government papers, with no AI search agency among them.

On this page AEO means answer engine optimization: the work of getting a company cited inside AI search answers. Dutch agencies mostly sell the same work as GEO, under labels such as GEO-bureau, AI-vindbaarheid or zichtbaarheid in ChatGPT. A GEO agency in Amsterdam or Utrecht is doing the same job under another name. Our explainer on aeo vs geo shows where each label came from and why the method matters more than the acronym.

02

What does AI search look like in the Netherlands in 2026?

The Dutch adopted AI assistants early, and Google still carries most commercial discovery. Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reported in September 2024 that 23.4% of people aged 12 and over had used AI programs such as ChatGPT, rising to 48.7% of 18 to 24 year olds. Searchlab, citing Eurostat, puts 2025 use of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot or Gemini at 44.7% of Dutch people aged 16 to 74 in the previous three months.

Google remains the main stage. StatCounter puts Google at 89.14% of Dutch searches in September 2026, Bing at 4.57%, and DuckDuckGo and Ecosia below 2% each. Bing's share is small, but Copilot draws on Bing's index, so our Dutch plans still include Bing Webmaster Tools and IndexNow alongside Googlebot access and Search Console.

Google's AI layer arrived in two steps. The Netherlands was left out of the March 2025 European AI Overviews rollout; Google's Dutch blog then announced AI-overzichten in Dutch at Google I/O on 20 May 2025. AI-modus followed: Bright.nl reported on 8 October 2025 that it was rolling out in the Netherlands in Dutch, placed ahead of the standard results tab. AI Mode breaks a question into subtopics and runs many searches at once, and that query fan-out decides which Dutch pages get cited.

03

Which Dutch sectors and cities do we help appear in AI answers?

We work with Dutch companies wherever buyers ask an assistant for a shortlist before they ask a colleague. Amsterdam's B2B SaaS and fintech firms are a natural fit: international buyers ask ChatGPT and Perplexity in English for payment, HR or developer tools, and the answer depends on G2 and Capterra profiles, honest comparison pages and documentation the engines can read. Because many Dutch scale-ups sell into the United Kingdom, Germany and the US from day one, we often run separate prompt sets per market so one country's answers do not hide another's.

Rotterdam's port, logistics and freight forwarding firms face a double problem: their buyers search in English, and the AEO acronym already belongs to their customs paperwork. Clear service pages that name lanes, certifications and response times help assistants describe them correctly. High-tech manufacturers and industrial suppliers around Eindhoven sell to engineers who ask for suppliers by specification, so spec data in HTML rather than PDF only, and trade-press mentions, carry weight.

We also support Dutch ecommerce brands, where Kiyoh reviews and the Thuiswinkel.org trust mark are common trust signals that assistants can read, and professional services such as accounting firms and law firms in Amsterdam's Zuidas and The Hague, where every claim an engine repeats must be accurate. This page is general information, not legal advice.

04

Which AEO services can Dutch teams hire from us?

The full set, delivered remotely in English, with prompts tested in Dutch and English. Most Dutch engagements start with an AEO audit: we record how each engine answers your prompts today, find what blocks citations and rank the fixes, so you decide on a longer program with evidence in hand.

Technical AEO covers robots.txt, Cloudflare's AI crawler settings, server-rendered HTML, sitemaps and IndexNow. That matters for Dutch sites, where cookie walls and JavaScript-heavy webshops can hide page text from crawlers. AI visibility tracking reruns your prompt sets every month and reports citation share, Search Console data and GA4 referrals in one place.

Engine work follows where your buyers are. ChatGPT SEO focuses on OAI-SearchBot access and the third-party pages ChatGPT reads, and Perplexity SEO covers PerplexityBot and the sources Perplexity tends to cite. For content, our GEO services and AEO content writing restructure key pages into answer-first formats with named sources and visible review dates. Dutch copy should be written or approved by a native speaker on your side; we supply the structure, questions and evidence. If your team prefers to run the work itself, aeo consulting provides the prompt sets, priorities and training.

05

Which Dutch buyer prompts do we test, and how is progress measured?

We write prompts the way Dutch buyers type them: in Dutch, with euro prices, 'incl. btw' or 'excl. btw' where B2B buyers expect it, city names, and Dutch institutions such as the KVK, the Belastingdienst or the AFM. Many Dutch professionals switch to English for work questions, and English prompts often surface different sources, so we keep separate Dutch and English sets and keep each fixed. If you run Dutch and English versions of a page, we check the hreflang tags so Google shows the right one to each audience; our guide to international aeo covers the setup.

Progress is measured four ways: citation share across each prompt set, GA4 referral sessions from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, copilot.microsoft.com and gemini.google.com, Search Console's generative AI performance data, and Bing Webmaster Tools AI Performance for Copilot citations.

What rules apply to AI search optimization in the Netherlands?

Consumer law, the self-regulatory advertising code, privacy law and the EU AI Act all touch this work. The Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) enforces the consumer rules and has acted against both sellers of fake reviews and webshops that use them. Our tactics are designed to sit inside these rules; this is general information, not legal advice.

  • From 28 May 2022, the ACM says businesses that show customer reviews must take steps to ensure they reflect real customer experiences and tell consumers what those steps are; posting or commissioning fake reviews is banned under all circumstances.
  • The Nederlandse Reclame Code, overseen by Stichting Reclame Code, requires advertising to be recognizable as advertising. Its Social Media and Influencer Marketing Code requires creators to disclose payment, discounts or free products, which matters if you seed content on YouTube, LinkedIn or Reddit.
  • Consistent, truthful company facts across the KVK Handelsregister, Google Business Profile and Gouden Gids are an AI search signal, and the KVK record is the anchor: every Dutch company and legal entity must be registered in the Handelsregister.
  • EU AI Act Article 50 transparency duties took effect on 2 August 2026; systems already on the market have until 2 December 2026 for machine-readable marking under the Digital Omnibus.
  • GDPR applies to lead forms, review tools and tracking, so GA4 measurement of AI referrals runs through your existing cookie consent setup.
07

How do we work with Dutch teams across time zones?

We work remotely, and both our offices overlap with the Dutch working day. The Netherlands returns to Central European Time on 25 October 2026, after which India is four and a half hours ahead; during summer time the gap is three and a half hours. A 9am Amsterdam call lands in our Delhi early afternoon, and fixes agreed in the morning are often ready by your end of day.

Our US office covers your late afternoon: a 4pm call in Rotterdam or Eindhoven falls in the US East Coast morning. Most Dutch clients settle into one weekly call, a shared prompt log and a written monthly report in English, with prompt runs and crawler checks done outside your hours.

08

What happens in the first 90 days with an AEO agency in the Netherlands?

Month one measures, month two fixes, month three gives the first fair comparison. We avoid declaring wins from a single answer, because engines vary between runs.

Days 1 to 30 cover the Dutch and English prompt baselines, a robots.txt, Cloudflare and cookie-wall review, Bing Webmaster Tools verification and an entity check across Organization schema, your KVK details, Google Business Profile, Gouden Gids, Kiyoh or Trustpilot, and LinkedIn. Days 31 to 60 cover page restructuring, a review request process with a clear note on how reviews are checked, and the first digital PR outreach for honest mentions in Dutch trade and business media such as Emerce or sector titles. Days 61 to 90 rerun every prompt and set priorities for the next quarter.

09

What does AEO cost in the Netherlands, and who is it not for?

Dutch agencies publish more prices than most markets. Searchlab's GEO price comparison, dated 1 October 2026, lists one-off scans from €295, monthly measurement from €149, ongoing programs from €695 to €1,500 a month and full GEO, SEO and content packages up to €2,295 a month plus a €3,995 setup fee. Our guide to AEO pricing sets these against UK and US figures.

We take a simpler route: one fixed price per engagement, set after a free AEO visibility check, so the whole cost is agreed in writing before work starts.

It suits Dutch companies with an indexed site, a clear buyer and someone who can approve changes quickly. It is not for teams that want a promised spot in ChatGPT, plan to buy reviews, or need an agency to write all Dutch copy in-house. The mistakes we see most are fixable: Cloudflare defaults blocking OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot, cookie walls that hide page text from crawlers, Dutch pages that are thin machine translations of English ones, and llms.txt files published in the hope of citations when no major engine has confirmed using them.

How it works

How an engagement runs

  1. 01

    Free visibility check

A handful of Dutch buyer prompts and a robots.txt read show whether a fuller engagement makes sense.

  2. 02

    Fixed-price proposal

We agree the engines, languages, prompts, markets and outputs, and confirm one price in writing.

  3. 03

    Baseline, then fixes

We log the starting answers, then work through access, entity and page fixes in priority order.

  4. 04

    Earned mentions

We pursue honest coverage on the Dutch directories, review platforms and trade publications your prompt results show engines citing.

  5. 05

    Monthly rerun and review

Each month the same prompts run again and we walk your team through what moved and why.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are you a Dutch AEO agency?

We are not based in the Netherlands. AEO Services Agency is the AEO and GEO practice of Greenwolf Tech Labs, with offices in India and the USA, and we work remotely with Dutch brands using Dutch prompts, Dutch directories and euro pricing in our analysis.

Is answer engine optimization related to the customs AEO certificate?

No. The customs AEO status is an EU certification for trusted importers, exporters and logistics firms, issued in the Netherlands by Dutch Customs. Answer engine optimization is a marketing discipline focused on being cited by AI search tools such as ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity.

When did Google AI Overviews and AI Mode launch in the Netherlands?

Google announced AI-overzichten in Dutch at Google I/O on 20 May 2025, after leaving the Netherlands out of its March 2025 European rollout. AI-modus began rolling out in Dutch in October 2025, as Bright.nl reported on 8 October 2025.

Is a GEO bureau the same as an AEO agency?

In practice, yes. Dutch agencies mostly sell this work as GEO or AI-vindbaarheid, while English-language buyers often call it AEO. Both aim to get a brand cited in AI answers; ask any agency which prompts it measures and how.

How much does an AEO or GEO agency cost in the Netherlands?

Searchlab's October 2026 comparison of Dutch agencies that publish prices runs from a €295 one-off scan to €2,295 a month plus setup for a full package. We quote one fixed price after a free AEO visibility check rather than publishing a rate card.

Do we need Dutch-language content to appear in Dutch AI answers?

Usually yes for consumers and local buyers, because Dutch prompts tend to cite Dutch-language sources. B2B buyers often ask in English, so many Dutch companies need both, with correct hreflang so each audience gets the right page.

How long does AI search optimization take for a Dutch company?

Access fixes can register within days; OpenAI says robots.txt changes for OAI-SearchBot take about 24 hours. Content and mention work usually needs two or three monthly reruns before a reliable trend shows, because AI answers vary between runs.

Can we write our own reviews on Kiyoh or Trustpilot to improve AI visibility?

No. The ACM says posting or commissioning fake reviews is banned under all circumstances, and businesses showing reviews must explain how they check they are genuine. We only help you ask real customers for honest reviews.

Should a Dutch site block GPTBot?

That is a policy choice. Blocking GPTBot opts you out of OpenAI model training only; appearing in ChatGPT search depends on OAI-SearchBot, which OpenAI says must be allowed. Cloudflare's managed robots.txt can block training bots while leaving search crawlers open.
