AEO for SaaS companies that want to be on the AI shortlist
AEO for SaaS is the work of making sure that when a buyer asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Google AI Mode for the best tool in your category, your product is named, described accurately and linked. We work with founders, heads of growth and product marketing leads at B2B and B2C software companies. You get a baseline of the prompts your buyers actually type, a rebuilt set of comparison, alternatives, integration and pricing pages, and monthly reporting on citation share and trial signups from AI referrals.

Quick answer
How does a SaaS company get recommended by ChatGPT and other AI assistants?
AEO for SaaS starts with the pages assistants pull from when buyers compare tools: honest comparison and alternatives pages, integration pages, public pricing and documentation. Add consistent G2 and Capterra profiles, keep OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot allowed in robots.txt, then track category prompts monthly. No one can promise a citation, but these inputs are what answers draw on.
- Software buyers now open many shortlists inside AI chatbots before they visit Google.
- Comparison, alternatives, integration and pricing pages are the pages assistants quote most directly.
- G2 and Capterra profiles act as third-party evidence that answers can cross-check.
- We report citation share and trial signups from AI referrals, not just mentions.

Why does AEO for SaaS matter more now than a year ago?
Because the software shortlist is increasingly built in a chat window. A G2 survey of 1,076 software buyers in March 2026 found 51% now start their research in an AI chatbot more often than in Google, up from 29%, and 54% said chatbots most influence their shortlist.
That shifts where a deal is won. If a prospect asks for project management tools with a native Salesforce sync and your product is missing from the answer, you are out before the demo request form is ever seen. The fix is rarely a single page. It is a set of pages, profiles and technical settings that together give assistants something specific and current to say about you.
Which SaaS pages do AI answers quote when buyers compare tools?
Answers lean on pages that settle a comparison in plain language. When we audit category prompts, the cited sources we look for first are vendor comparison pages, alternatives roundups, integration directories, pricing pages and product documentation, plus review sites.
Most SaaS sites have these pages in weak form: a pricing page that says "contact sales", an integrations grid of logos with no text, a comparison page that only lists your wins. We rewrite them so each opens with a direct answer, names who the product suits and who it does not, and carries a visible last-updated date.
- "X vs Y" pages with a fair feature table and a clear verdict for each buyer type
- "Alternatives to [competitor]" pages that explain switching cost and migration
- One page per integration describing what syncs, in which direction and on which plan
- Pricing pages with plan names, limits and trial terms written out as text

Do G2 and Capterra reviews affect what ChatGPT says about a product?
They are part of the evidence. Peec AI's study of 30 million sources lists G2 among the domains AI search cites most, alongside Reddit, YouTube, LinkedIn and Wikipedia, so your profile there is often read next to your own site.
We check that category tags, product descriptions, pricing and integration lists on G2 and Capterra match your website, and that your Organization schema links to those profiles through sameAs. We also look at how your product is discussed in Reddit threads and YouTube walkthroughs. We do not post fake reviews or seed inauthentic threads; Google's AI optimization guide warns against inauthentic mentions, and buyers spot them quickly.
How should docs, changelogs and trial pages be set up for answer engines?
Make them crawlable, server-rendered and specific. Documentation is where an assistant confirms whether your API supports webhooks or whether SSO is on the starter plan, so a docs portal behind a login or rendered entirely in client-side JavaScript leaves those questions to a competitor's docs.
We check that help center articles return full HTML, that changelog entries carry dates, and that feature limits on trial and pricing pages agree with what the docs say. Conflicting numbers across pages are a common reason assistants describe a product wrongly. An llms.txt file for developer docs is cheap and can help coding agents, but no major answer engine has confirmed using it for citations, so we treat it as hygiene.
Should a software company block GPTBot or OAI-SearchBot?
Keep OAI-SearchBot allowed if you want to appear in ChatGPT search; blocking GPTBot is a separate choice. OpenAI's crawler documentation says GPTBot gathers training data and blocking it only opts you out of training, while sites that block OAI-SearchBot are not shown in ChatGPT search answers.
The same split exists elsewhere: PerplexityBot and Claude-SearchBot serve search, ClaudeBot and Google-Extended are training controls. We also check Cloudflare, because its managed robots.txt and AI crawler defaults can block bots your marketing team never meant to block, then confirm in server logs which crawlers actually reach your docs and pricing pages.
How do we measure AEO for SaaS against pipeline?
We tie citations to trials and demos, not screenshots. Each month we run a fixed prompt set covering category, comparison, integration and pricing questions in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google AI Mode, and record whether you are named, how you are described and which URL is cited.
In GA4 we separate referral sources such as chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, copilot.microsoft.com and gemini.google.com and follow them through to trial starts and demo requests. Bing Webmaster Tools AI Performance adds first-party citation share for Copilot, and Search Console's generative AI report covers Google. Greenwolf Tech Labs has built GA4 and Search Console dashboards for years, so this reporting sits in a live dashboard rather than a slide.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is AEO for SaaS different from regular SaaS SEO?
It builds on the same foundations, since Google says optimizing for AI search is still SEO. The difference is emphasis: comparison and alternatives pages, integration detail, review profiles and prompt tracking get more weight because buyers increasingly ask assistants to build their shortlist.
Should we publish pricing to show up in AI answers?
Assistants can only quote what they can read, so a public pricing page with plan names and limits gives them something accurate to say. If you keep enterprise pricing private, publish the starting plans and explain what changes at higher tiers.
Do comparison pages against competitors help with ChatGPT?
Comparison and alternatives pages are among the pages that answer category prompts directly, so they are often useful sources. They work best when they are fair, name who each product suits, and are dated and kept current.
How long before a SaaS company sees changes in AI answers?
Crawler and page fixes can be picked up within days to weeks; OpenAI says robots.txt changes for OAI-SearchBot take about 24 hours. Shifts in how often you are named usually take longer and vary by engine, which is why we track the same prompts every month.
Can you guarantee our product will be recommended by ChatGPT?
No one can promise a citation, and OpenAI does not publish how ChatGPT ranks sources. We improve the inputs answers draw on and report citation share and AI referral conversions monthly so you can judge the return.
What does AEO for a SaaS company cost?
We quote a fixed price after a free AEO visibility check, based on how many comparison, integration and docs pages need work. Our AEO pricing guide sets out published market ranges if you want a benchmark first.
