Quick answer

What does an AEO agency in Malaysia do for AI search?

An AEO agency Malaysia companies hire for AI search records how ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity and Copilot answer Malaysian buyer questions in English and Bahasa Malaysia, then fixes what keeps the brand out: crawler access, consistent company facts, answer-first pages in each language and honest mentions on the sources those engines cite.

  • Search 'AEO agency Malaysia' and most of page one is about the Royal Malaysian Customs Authorised Economic Operator programme, not marketing.
  • Google Malaysia began rolling out AI Mode in English on 25 August 2025, and local testers reported Bahasa Malaysia answers by mid-October 2025.
  • Microsoft reports AI adoption in Malaysia rose to 21.8% in the first quarter of 2026, up from 19.7% in the second half of 2025.
  • The Consumer Protection Act 1999 bars false or misleading representations, so every claim you want an AI engine to repeat must be accurate.

01

Why does 'AEO agency Malaysia' return customs pages?

Because in Malaysia AEO usually means Authorised Economic Operator, the accreditation the Royal Malaysian Customs Department gives to importers, exporters and manufacturers with secure supply chains. When we searched 'aeo agency malaysia' on 25 October 2026, one marketing agency page sat at the top and the rest of page one was customs material: Asian Development Bank study visit papers, a Malay Mail report on the national AEO programme, a World Customs Organization note on the Malaysia and Japan mutual recognition arrangement, and a MIDA briefing photo gallery.

On this page AEO means answer engine optimization: the work of getting a brand cited inside AI search answers. If you were looking for a GEO agency in Kuala Lumpur or an AI SEO agency in Malaysia, it is the same job under another label, and our explainer on aeo vs geo shows where each term came from. If you need customs accreditation, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department is the right contact, not us.

02

What does AI search look like in Malaysia in 2026?

Malaysian buyers now see AI answers on Google and inside chat assistants. Google's 28 October 2024 expansion took AI Overviews to more than 100 countries, and Website Builder Expert's country list for that rollout includes Malaysia. SoyaCincau reported on 25 August 2025 that Google Malaysia had started rolling out AI Mode, then in English only, and Nextrift reported on 14 October 2025 that AI Mode was answering in Bahasa Malaysia, a week after Google's 7 October 2025 post extended AI Mode to more than 35 new languages. OpenAI also launched its ChatGPT Go plan in Malaysia on 9 October 2025, Malay Mail reported, which lowered the cost of regular ChatGPT use.

Adoption is climbing. Microsoft Source Asia reported on 21 May 2026 that AI adoption in Malaysia rose to 21.8% in the first quarter of 2026, up from 19.7% in the second half of 2025, based on Microsoft's AI Diffusion report, which counts the share of people aged 15 to 64 who used a generative AI product.

Google is still where most questions start. StatCounter puts Google at 91.27% of Malaysia's searches in September 2026 and Bing at 5.62%, with Yahoo at 1.94%. Bing's share is small but real, and Bing's index feeds Copilot, so B2B sellers whose buyers work in Microsoft 365 should not ignore Bing Webmaster Tools.

03

Should Malaysian brands optimize in English, Bahasa Malaysia or both?

Usually both, measured separately, and Chinese as well if your buyers search in it. Malaysian buyers switch languages by category: much B2B, tech and finance research happens in English, while many consumer, government-facing and local service searches happen in Bahasa Malaysia.

The engines do not treat those searches the same way. aimode.my's State of AI Search in Malaysia study, published 21 July 2026, found that an English query for personal loans in Malaysia showed an AI Overview while the same query in Bahasa Melayu showed a map pack instead. The authors call their eight-query sample directional rather than conclusive, and we agree, which is why we run a full prompt set per language and report each one on its own line rather than assuming one language stands for the other.

The practical rule: each language version must answer the same questions with the same facts, ringgit prices and company details, and carry correct hreflang so the right version is shown. Machine-translated Bahasa Malaysia pages with stale facts are one of the most common reasons an engine cites a portal instead of the brand.

04

Which Malaysian sectors do we help appear in AI answers?

We work wherever Malaysian buyers ask an assistant for a shortlist before they ask a colleague. Real estate is the clearest case: Semrush ranks PropertyGuru first among Malaysian property sites, with iProperty close behind, so developers and agents in Mont Kiara, Bangsar South, Cyberjaya or Iskandar Puteri compete with portal listings in answers about launches and rents. Prices in ringgit, completion dates and developer names must match across your site and every listing.

Fintech and financial services firms meet bank comparison sites and news coverage in answers about loans, cards and business accounts, so product and fee facts must be current in both languages. B2B SaaS companies in the Klang Valley need G2 and Capterra profiles, honest comparison pages and documentation that crawlers can read.

Ecommerce brands compete with Shopee and Lazada listings, which Semrush shows leading Malaysian retail traffic, so product schema, reviews and a clean feed matter. Hotels and travel brands in Penang, Langkawi and Sabah compete with Tripadvisor, and healthcare providers, clinics and dentists depend on a complete Google Business Profile. We also support universities and private colleges and professional services firms such as accounting firms and consultancies.

05

Which AEO services can Malaysian teams hire from us?

The full set, delivered remotely in English with Bahasa Malaysia prompt testing. Most engagements start with an AEO audit: we record how each engine answers your prompts today, find what blocks citations and rank the fixes, so the decision on a longer program is made with evidence in hand.

Technical AEO covers robots.txt, Cloudflare's AI crawler settings, server-rendered HTML for every language version, sitemaps and hreflang, verified in server logs for OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Claude-SearchBot, Bingbot and Googlebot. AI visibility tracking reruns the prompt set every month and reports citation share by language alongside Search Console and GA4 data.

Engine work follows your buyers. ChatGPT SEO focuses on OAI-SearchBot access and the third-party pages ChatGPT reads, while Perplexity SEO covers how Perplexity picks sources. For content, our GEO services and AEO content writing rebuild key pages into answer-first formats with named sources and visible review dates. If your team would rather do the work itself, AEO consulting supplies the prompt set, priorities and training.

06

Which Malaysian buyer prompts do we test, and how is progress measured?

We write prompts the way people in Malaysia type them: English for much B2B demand, Bahasa Malaysia for many consumer categories, ringgit prices, and place names such as KLCC, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, George Town or Johor Bahru. Each language gets its own set, written by hand rather than machine-translated.

Progress is measured four ways: citation share across the prompt set, GA4 referral sessions from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, copilot.microsoft.com and gemini.google.com, Search Console's generative AI performance data, and Bing Webmaster Tools AI Performance. If you run Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia versions of one site, we check that each market sees its own page; our international AEO work covers that in depth.

07

What rules apply to AI search optimization in Malaysia?

Four sets of rules shape the work, and our tactics are built to sit inside them. This is general information, not legal advice.

  • Part II of the Consumer Protection Act 1999 covers misleading and deceptive conduct and false representation; section 10 bars false or misleading representations about goods or services, and section 25 sets fines of up to RM250,000 for a company's first offence and RM500,000 for repeat offences.
  • Advertising Standards Malaysia administers the Malaysian Code of Advertising Practice and expects ads to be legal, decent, honest and truthful, without exaggeration or unrealistic expectations.
  • The Communications and Multimedia Content Code, in force from 30 May 2022, extends to online ads, marketplace operators and social media influencers and requires ads to be clearly identifiable as ads; its Complaints Bureau can impose fines of up to RM50,000.
  • The Personal Data Protection Act 2010 lets people opt out of direct marketing, and its 2024 amendments brought data protection officer appointments and breach notification into force on 1 June 2025, so review requests go only to customers who agreed to hear from you.
  • Every review should come from a real customer; we never write, buy or filter reviews, and we do not buy places on 'best agency' lists.
08

How do we work with Malaysian teams across time zones?

Malaysia keeps UTC+8 all year with no daylight saving, and India Standard Time is UTC+5:30, so Kuala Lumpur is two and a half hours ahead of our Delhi team. A 14:00 call in Kuala Lumpur is 11:30 in Delhi, so most of the Malaysian afternoon is shared working time.

Most of Malaysia works Monday to Friday, and Johor returned to a Saturday and Sunday weekend from 1 January 2025, as Malay Mail reported. Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu still rest on Friday and Saturday, so for teams there we book calls Sunday to Thursday instead. If you also sell into the United States, our US office can take calls in American hours, which run 12 or 13 hours behind Kuala Lumpur depending on US daylight saving.

09

What happens in the first 90 days, and what does it cost?

Month one measures, month two fixes, month three gives the first fair comparison. Days 1 to 30 cover the English and Bahasa Malaysia prompt baseline, a robots.txt and Cloudflare review, and an entity check across Organization schema, your SSM-registered company name, Google Business Profile, portal listings and LinkedIn. Days 31 to 60 cover page restructuring in each language, a consent-based review plan and the first digital PR outreach for honest mentions in Malaysian business media. Days 61 to 90 rerun every prompt and set priorities for the next quarter.

We did not find a published ringgit rate card we could verify for AEO work from Malaysian agencies when we checked in October 2026, and scopes vary widely, so compare what each quote measures rather than the headline number. Our guide to AEO pricing sets out published benchmarks from other markets. We charge one fixed price per engagement, agreed after a free AEO visibility check.

It suits Malaysian companies with an indexed site, a clear buyer and someone who can approve changes in each language. It is not for teams that want a promised spot in ChatGPT, plan to buy reviews or unlabelled influencer posts, or have no organic foundations yet. The mistakes we see most are fixable: Bahasa Malaysia pages that answer different questions from the English ones, text loaded by JavaScript that crawlers cannot read, Cloudflare defaults blocking OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot, portal listings with stale prices, and publishing llms.txt in the hope it changes citations when no major engine has confirmed using it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are you a Malaysian AEO agency with an office in Kuala Lumpur?

No. AEO Services Agency is the AEO and GEO practice of Greenwolf Tech Labs, with offices in India and the USA, and every Malaysia engagement runs remotely. We use Malaysian prompts in English and Bahasa Malaysia, ringgit prices, local directories and Malaysian rules, and Kuala Lumpur is only two and a half hours ahead of our Delhi team.

Is answer engine optimization related to the Malaysian customs AEO programme?

No. The Authorised Economic Operator programme of the Royal Malaysian Customs Department accredits businesses that move goods across borders. Answer engine optimization is a marketing discipline focused on being cited by AI search tools such as ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity.

Are Google AI Overviews and AI Mode available in Malaysia?

Yes. Malaysia was part of Google's 28 October 2024 expansion of AI Overviews to more than 100 countries. AI Mode began rolling out in Malaysia in English on 25 August 2025, and local testers reported it answering in Bahasa Malaysia by mid-October 2025.

How much does an AEO agency cost in Malaysia?

Scope drives the price: the number of engines, languages, prompts and pages. We quote one fixed price per engagement after a free AEO visibility check, and our AEO pricing guide shows published benchmarks from other markets so you can judge any quote.

Do AI Overviews show up for Bahasa Malaysia searches?

Sometimes, but not always for the same queries as English. A July 2026 study by aimode.my found an English loan query showed an AI Overview while the Bahasa Melayu version showed a map pack. That is why we test each language separately.

How long does AI search optimization take for a business in Malaysia?

Access fixes can register within days; OpenAI says robots.txt changes for OAI-SearchBot take about 24 hours. Content, listing and mention work in two languages usually needs two or three monthly reruns before a reliable trend shows, because AI answers vary between runs.

Does Bing matter for AI search in Malaysia?

Somewhat. StatCounter put Bing at 5.62% of Malaysia's searches in September 2026, against 91.27% for Google, and Bing's index feeds Copilot. We add Bing Webmaster Tools and its AI Performance report when your buyers work inside Microsoft 365.

What is the difference between a GEO agency and an AEO agency in Malaysia?

Mostly the label. GEO stresses generative engines and AEO stresses answers, but both aim to get your brand named and cited in AI search. Ask any agency how it measures results in English and Bahasa Malaysia, because the method matters more than the acronym.

Can an agency guarantee my brand appears in ChatGPT or AI Overviews?

No. No one can promise a citation, because AI answers change between runs and no engine publishes its ranking rules. A credible agency fixes access, content and mentions, then shows movement on a fixed prompt set over several months.
