HubSpot AEO review: what the $50 tracker covers, what it misses and who should buy it
HubSpot AEO is HubSpot's AI visibility tracker: for $50 a month in beta it runs 25 prompts daily in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity and reports how often your brand appears, how it is described and which sources get cited. It is a good, cheap measurement layer for HubSpot customers. It does not cover Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Copilot or Claude, and it cannot fix the reasons a brand is missing. This review sets out the verified plan limits, the gaps, a 30-day setup plan and a decision table for tool only, tool plus audit, or an agency program.

Quick answer
Is HubSpot AEO worth it?
HubSpot AEO is worth it for HubSpot customers who want a low-cost baseline of 25 prompts across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. It is not enough on its own if your buyers use Google AI Overviews, AI Mode or Copilot, or if you are missing from answers for reasons a tracker cannot diagnose, such as blocked crawlers or weak third-party mentions.
- HubSpot's pricing page lists AEO at $50 a month in beta, $45 billed annually, with a 28-day trial.
- 25 prompts run daily on three engines; Marketing Hub Enterprise gets 50.
- No Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Copilot or Claude: fill the gap with free first-party reports.
- A tracker measures visibility; it does not diagnose crawler, indexing or mention problems.
What is HubSpot AEO and what does it track?
HubSpot AEO is a prompt tracker built into HubSpot's marketing products. You load the questions buyers ask AI assistants, it runs them every day in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, and it reports whether your brand appears, how it is described and which pages the engines cite.
It came from an acquisition. According to MarketScreener, HubSpot agreed on 30 October 2025 to acquire XFunnel, an Israeli AEO platform founded earlier that year, for $30 million, and HubSpot's announcement said XFunnel would be built natively into its marketing tools. The product still carries a Beta label on HubSpot's pricing page as of October 2026.
HubSpot's knowledge base lists four groups of metrics. Brand Visibility is the share of tracked prompts where your brand appears. Share of Voice is your portion of all brand mentions in those answers. Sentiment scores how positively the engines describe you, on a scale HubSpot's product page gives as -100 to +100. Citation metrics show ownership rate, brand mention rate, content types and channel sources, which tells you whether answers lean on your own pages or on third parties. A recommendations view then suggests content to create or update.
HubSpot also offers a free AEO Grader. It is a one-time snapshot that scores how OpenAI, Perplexity and Gemini describe your brand out of 100, not a daily tracker, so treat it as a first look rather than a baseline.
How much does HubSpot AEO cost, and which plans include it?
HubSpot AEO costs $50 a month, or $45 a month billed annually, according to HubSpot's AEO pricing page checked on 24 October 2026. It also comes with Marketing Hub Professional and Enterprise. HubSpot says extra prompts can be bought at any time but does not publish what they cost, so ask before you plan a larger prompt set.
The allowances below come from HubSpot's knowledge base article on setting up AI visibility. An answer is one prompt run on one engine, so 25 prompts on three engines across a month comes to roughly 2,250 to 2,325 answers, inside the 2,500 cap.
| Subscription | Daily prompts | Monthly answers | Engines |
|---|---|---|---|
| HubSpot AEO free trial (28 days) | 25 | 2,500 | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity |
| HubSpot AEO ($50/mo, $45 annual) | 25 | 2,500 | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity |
| Marketing Hub Professional | 25 | 2,500 | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity |
| Marketing Hub Enterprise | 50 | 5,000 | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity |
What does HubSpot AEO miss?
Three things: engines, discovery and diagnosis. The engine gap is the one to check first. HubSpot AEO tracks ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity only. Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Microsoft Copilot and Claude are not covered, and reviews by Sonary and Echowi both flag this as the main weakness. If your buyers search on Google, a tracker without Google AI Overviews leaves out the AI answer that sits on Google's own results page.
Discovery is the second gap. The tool only sees the prompts you load. If your 25 prompts are the wrong 25, the dashboard will look healthy while buyers ask questions you never measured. HubSpot's suggested prompts are generated from your own brand context, which helps with setup but tends to mirror how you describe yourself rather than how buyers phrase problems.
Diagnosis is the third. A tracker can tell you that Perplexity never cites you. It cannot tell you that your CDN returns a 403 to PerplexityBot, that your pricing page renders only after JavaScript runs, or that the review sites Perplexity cites for your category do not list you. Those answers come from AI crawler access checks in server logs, Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, and from reading the cited sources one by one. That work sits in an AEO audit, not in any dashboard.
Finally, it is beta software. Prompt prices, limits and features may change, and daily runs still vary. Semrush found only 25% of cited sources overlap between ChatGPT's reasoning modes, so read monthly averages, not daily swings.
How does HubSpot AEO compare with other AEO tools?
On price per prompt it is among the cheapest of the AEO tools with published prices; on engine coverage it is among the narrowest. The table uses each vendor's pricing page as last checked for our tool guides. Prices change often, so confirm before you buy.
For most HubSpot customers the smart setup is HubSpot AEO for the three chat engines plus the free first-party reports for Google and Bing: the Search Console generative AI report Google added in June 2026, and Bing Webmaster Tools AI Performance, which shows Copilot citations and citation share. Together they cover five surfaces for $50 a month. If you need daily prompt tracking in AI Overviews or Copilot as well, Otterly.AI or Ahrefs Brand Radar fills that gap.
| Tool | Published entry price | Prompts at entry | Engines | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HubSpot AEO | $50/mo ($45 annual), beta | 25 daily | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity | HubSpot customers wanting a cheap baseline |
| Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit | $99/mo add-on | 25 | Includes ChatGPT and AI Mode; full list not published | Teams already on Semrush |
| Otterly.AI Lite | $29/mo | 15 | ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity, Copilot | Small teams needing Google and Copilot |
| Ahrefs Brand Radar | Custom prompts priced as an add-on | Your own prompts or a prebuilt index | AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot | Competitor benchmarking across six engines |
| Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools | Free | No prompts; real query data | Google AI features; Copilot | Everyone, alongside any tracker |
How should you set up HubSpot AEO in the first 30 days?
Spend the trial building a baseline you will trust in six months, not exploring the dashboard. The 28-day trial is long enough to collect about four weeks of daily runs, which is the minimum for a stable starting number.
Here is a worked example for a B2B SaaS company selling scheduling software, using the 25-prompt allowance. Replace HubSpot's suggestions with prompts written from sales calls and Search Console queries, split by buyer stage: 8 category prompts such as "best scheduling software for clinics", 6 comparison prompts naming your two largest competitors, 5 problem prompts such as "how to reduce no-shows for appointments", 4 pricing and alternatives prompts, and only 2 branded prompts to check how you are described. That keeps 23 of 25 prompts on unbranded questions, where the opportunity is, and maps straight onto the comparison pages and pricing pages engines most often quote.
- Week 1: confirm OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and Googlebot get HTTP 200 from your site in server logs; fix blocks before tracking starts.
- Week 1: load your 25 prompts and the three to five competitors buyers actually compare you with.
- Week 2: export the Search Console generative AI report and Bing AI Performance as your Google and Copilot baseline.
- Week 3: create a GA4 segment for chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com and copilot.microsoft.com referrals, so visibility can be read next to actual visits and leads.
- Week 4: read the citation sources per prompt, list the third-party domains that keep appearing, and save the four-week averages as your baseline.
HubSpot AEO vs an agency: which do you need?
Buy the tool when the question is how visible you are; bring in outside help when the question is why you are not visible and what to change. The tool and an agency are not substitutes: most agencies use a tracker, and a tracker does none of the fixing.
Use the table to place yourself. If you sit in the first row, HubSpot AEO and the free reports are enough. Further down, the work moves from measurement into diagnosis and execution: technical AEO, rewriting key pages as answer-first content, and digital PR to earn mentions on the sources engines already cite. For budgets, our guide to AEO pricing sets out what agencies charge in the market.
| Your situation | What to buy | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Already visible in most chat answers; want to watch the trend | HubSpot AEO plus Search Console and Bing reports | Measurement is the only gap |
| Missing from answers and you do not know why | HubSpot AEO plus a one-off AEO audit | A tracker shows the gap; an audit finds the cause |
| Buyers mainly use Google, and AI Overviews are taking clicks | A tracker that covers AI Overviews, plus AI Overviews optimization | HubSpot AEO does not measure Google's AI answers |
| Engines describe you wrongly or cite outdated facts | Correction work on your site and profiles | Sentiment scores flag it but do not correct it |
| You need visibility rising across many prompts and markets | An ongoing AI search optimization program | Content, technical and mention work every month |
What mistakes do teams make with HubSpot AEO?
The common errors come from treating the dashboard as the strategy rather than a measuring stick. Each one below makes the numbers look better or worse than reality.
- Keeping HubSpot's suggested prompts unchanged, so the set reflects your positioning instead of buyers' questions.
- Loading mostly branded prompts, which inflates Brand Visibility because engines nearly always name the brand you ask about.
- Reading daily scores. Answers vary run to run; compare four-week averages.
- Assuming a high ChatGPT score means you show up in Google AI Overviews. They use different retrieval and different sources.
- Publishing every recommended content piece. Check each against real prompts first; volume of pages is not what gets quoted.
- Changing prompts every month, which breaks the baseline. Keep a fixed core and add new prompts as a separate group.
When is HubSpot AEO not the right choice?
Skip it, or pair it with another tracker, in four cases. If you do not use HubSpot, there is no CRM link and the standalone plan competes on price alone against tools that cover more engines. If most of your demand comes from Google, the missing AI Overviews and AI Mode coverage matters more than the low price. If you sell in several countries or languages, check whether it can sample by region before you commit, because answers and cited sources differ by market. And if you are not yet indexed in Bing, blocked by Cloudflare's AI crawler settings or absent from the review sites in your category, fix those first: a tracker will only confirm that you are invisible.
If you would like a second opinion, AEO Services Agency, the AEO and GEO practice of Greenwolf Tech Labs, offers a free AEO visibility check. We run a fixed prompt set across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Perplexity, Copilot and Gemini, record who gets cited and why, and tell you whether HubSpot AEO on its own covers what you need. Any follow-on work is quoted at a fixed price, and we measure the same prompts before and after changes. No one can promise a citation, but you will know where you stand and what to fix first.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How much does HubSpot AEO cost?
HubSpot's pricing page lists HubSpot AEO at $50 a month, or $45 a month billed annually, in beta, with a 28-day free trial. It is also included with Marketing Hub Professional and Enterprise. Extra prompts can be bought at any time, but HubSpot does not publish their price.
Which AI engines does HubSpot AEO track?
ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, according to HubSpot's knowledge base. It does not track Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Microsoft Copilot or Claude, so pair it with Search Console's generative AI report and Bing Webmaster Tools AI Performance, or a second tracker, if those engines matter to your buyers.
How many prompts does HubSpot AEO include?
The standalone plan and Marketing Hub Professional include 25 prompts run daily, up to 2,500 answers a month. Marketing Hub Enterprise includes 50 prompts and 5,000 answers a month, according to HubSpot's knowledge base.
What is the difference between HubSpot AEO and the HubSpot AEO Grader?
The AEO Grader is free and gives a one-time score out of 100 for how OpenAI, Perplexity and Gemini describe your brand. HubSpot AEO is the paid tracker that runs your own prompt set every day and reports visibility, share of voice, sentiment and citations over time. Use the Grader for a first look and the tracker for a baseline.
Can HubSpot AEO get my brand cited by ChatGPT?
No tool can do that by itself, and no one can promise a citation. HubSpot AEO measures where you appear and suggests content ideas. Getting cited depends on crawler access, indexing, answer-first pages and mentions on the sources engines already trust, which is work done on your site and beyond it.
What are the best HubSpot AEO alternatives?
Otterly.AI Lite at $29 a month covers ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot; Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit is a $99 monthly add-on; Ahrefs Brand Radar covers six engines including AI Mode. Choose by the engines your buyers use, then by prompt allowance and price.
Is HubSpot AEO good for agencies?
It works for agencies whose clients already run HubSpot, since prompts can draw on CRM context. For agencies tracking many brands across Google AI Overviews and Copilot, the three-engine limit and unpublished extra prompt pricing make a broader tracker easier to standardize on.
